An aircraft hangar at the Culpeper County Regional Airport required remediation. Initially, the County determined that many of the aircraft hangar door headers needed repair or replacement due to deterioration. Upon field inspection by NSA and NSA’s structural engineering consultant, it was determined that in addition to deteriorating headers, which had been repaired in various ways over the last approximately 20 years, other headers were undersized, and, per the results of a modeling analysis conducted by the structural engineer, existing trusses and gable-end walls required strengthening or reinforcing. Finally, all headers were to receive flashing for protection from weather. In conjunction with the structural engineer, NSA developed a plan of remediation for all of the deficiencies identified in the hangar.
