Located in a 13 story residential building near the Potomac River in Washington DC, this residential project involved a complete remodeling of the 5000+ sf apartment’s interior to create an in-suite home office and library for more than 15,000 volumes.  The library  is used as a visual and spatial spine that ties the home office, living, dining and kitchen areas together and functions as a circulation spine within the apartment.   A series of free-standing ‘art’ walls separate the library circulation space from the adjacent office and living areas which contain a high, continuous gable ceiling with continuous lighting coves and valances. The books are accommodated in a series of custom, stained wood shelving units in the circulation hall on both sides of the entry door and in a series of painted cabinetry units with doors and open shelving arranged around the perimeter of the office space.  At the opposite end of the apartment, the library shelving turns the corner and becomes a mixture of more shelving and wall panels that add a focal point to the dining room.
