Sometimes remodeling projects do not need to be overly large.  This project in Washington DC involved adding a dining room/family room area and master bedroom to a small house.  The addition itself is in keeping with the overall scale of the house and doesn’t overwhelm it; instead, it is designed and thought out to utilize the re-purposed and existing spaces as much as possible and to modestly expand them where needed.  Spaces are opened one to the other and circulation from front to back is alongside the newly remodeled areas.  Built-in cabinets and re-faced fireplace surround add storage space and a warm wood facade along one side of the joined spaces while the kitchen opposite opens to the dining and family areas.
